Softball 2017 Review

Varsity Softball

The softball team logged another 20-win season, finishing with a 22-7 record and as the runners-up in the sectional. The team met its goal of winning at least 20 games and of capturing the inaugural Circle City Conference championship. After dropping two games during the regular season to Decatur Central, the Rebels lost a tight 1-0 affair in the sectional final to the Hawks, who were also Marion County champions.

Junior Jordan Jenkins and freshman Amber Linton split the team MVP award. Either Jenkins (11 wins) or Linton (10 wins) was the winning pitcher in 21 of the team’s 22 victories. Junior shortstop Amanda Prather was the team’s offensive player of the year. Junior second baseman Lauren Fey earned the team’s defensive player of the year award, after winning offensive player of the year last season. Fey was also named large school third team all-state by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA). All four players – Jenkins, Linton, Prather and Fey – were named All-Marion County and All-Circle City Conference. The team’s lone seniors – Abby Hickson and Maddie Faust – were both named honorable mention academic all-state by the ICGSA.
